the life connection club kids Have you ever had something totally unexpected happen in your life? How did you react?

Mary had something totally unexpected happen in her life. The angel Gabriel told her that she was going to become pregnant by the Holy Spirit, and that she would give birth to God's Son, the Promised One.

Now, use your imagination, as we journey back through time to look at the Life Adventure Story "Mary."

Story Mary
(Story adapted from Matthew 1:18-2:23 and Luke 1:26-2:40.)

My name is Mary. I am excited to share with you how God worked in my life.

I lived in Nazareth, a town in Galilee. I was engaged to marry a man named Joseph. God sent the angel Gabriel to tell me that I would become pregnant and give birth to a Son. I would name Him Jesus. He would be called the Son of the Most High. I asked the angel how this would happen since I was a virgin. The angel said that the Holy Spirit would be the father. Joseph didn't understand, so an angel of the Lord came to him in a dream. He told Joseph not be afraid to take me as his wife because the baby in me was conceived by the Holy Spirit.

Joseph and I traveled to Bethlehem so our names would be listed as part of the family of David. While we were in Bethlehem the time came for our baby to be born. There were no rooms left in the inn, but the innkeeper said we could stay in the stable. When the baby was born, I wrapped Him in cloths and laid Him in a manger, the box where animals are fed. That night some shepherds were in the fields watching their sheep, and an angel of the Lord came to them. The glory of the Lord was shining around them, and suddenly they became very frightened. The angel said that he brought good news of great joy to all people. "Today your Savior is born in the city of David; He is Christ the Lord." Then a very large group of angels joined the first angel and they were singing praises to God. The shepherds came to Bethlehem and told us what the angels had said about our newborn baby.

Some wise men saw the star in the east, and they came to worship our baby Jesus. When King Herod heard that this new baby was to become the new King of the Jews, he was troubled. The king told his wise men to look for the child. When they found Jesus in Bethlehem, they gave Him gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh. In a dream, God warned the wise men not to go back to King Herod, so they went back to their country by a different route. When Herod realized the wise men had tricked him, he was very angry and wanted to harm baby Jesus. An angel of the Lord came to Joseph in a dream and said it wasn't safe for us to stay in Egypt. We needed to leave.

Later, we took Jesus to Jerusalem to present Him to God. In the temple, we met an elderly man named Simeon. He had been told by the Holy Spirit that he would not die before he saw the Promised One of God. When Simeon saw us, he took the baby in his arms and thanked God saying that his eyes had seen God's salvation, which God prepared before all people. Also, a prophetess named Anna was also in the temple. She was eighty-four years old, and when she saw our baby, she began to thank God and, she talked about Jesus to all those who were waiting for the Messiah.

Down through the centuries, many people had been looking for and waiting on the Promised One. Jesus was the Promised One, the one who fulfilled that longing of the people for the Son of God who takes away the sins of the world. Have you been looking and waiting for Him? Have you been hoping for your chance to meet the Creator of the universe? Now you have that opportunity. Jesus came from heaven, became a baby, grew to be a man, died for our sins, rose again and returned to heaven. He conquered death so we could have eternal life. You can meet Him right now, right where you are.

Let's thank God for all He has done and for His great love for us. Pray these words of praise to Him:

God, thank You that You bring good news of great joy to me. Jesus, You can fulfill all of my longings. Your death on the cross was the payment for my sins, and Your resurrection gives me hope that I can live with You in Your kingdom forever. Lord Jesus, I want to meet You right now, right where I am.
