Have you ever wondered, "Where did I come from? How did the rocks, trees, and lakes get here? Who is God? What is God like? How can I know God?"
Everything you see around you, and even the invisible things, such as wind, had a beginning except for God. He has always lived.
God lived before anything, anyone, or even time itself existed. He lives forever, and He will never die. He is like a flame that stays lit all the time and never burns out. Seeing His glory is like opening a huge curtain in a dark room and letting the sunshine in. The light makes everything in the room so much easier to see.
Now, use your imagination, as we journey to the beginning of time to look at the Life Connection Story "The Adventure Begins."
(Story adapted from Genesis 1:1 to 2:3)
This is God's story. He is telling the story as if He is talking to you.
In the beginning, I created the sky and the earth. I spoke, and all creation came into being, out of nothing. The earth was formless, and darkness covered the ocean. I created light and separated the light from the darkness on the first day.
On the second day, I created the air, which had water above and below it. The water above the air was like a mist in the sky. The water below the air was the ocean.
On the third day, I spoke, and the water below the air gathered so that dry land would appear. I called the land "earth" and the water "seas." I enabled the earth to grow plants, and the plants produced fruits and grains, similar to what you now eat. The plants also produced seeds for making new plants. At this point, I was still getting things ready for My special creation, YOU.
On the fourth day, I created the sun, the moon, and the stars to separate day and night. I put the earth on an axis, like a spinning top, and sent it orbiting around the sun to make the seasons, days, and years. I made the larger light, the sun, to brighten the day. I made the smaller light, the moon, to illuminate the night. Have you been outside lately on a clear night? I created the dazzling canopy of stars that hang over you. I spoke all of this into being with a gigantic sound. The sound echoed out over the vast creation. Can you imagine the planets trying to maintain their orbits without My direction? Without My design, the universe would be in total chaos.
On the fifth day, I created everything that lives in the water, including fish, eels, and crabs. I created the birds that fly overhead. I gave the fish and birds their many different colors, shapes, and sizes, and I know everything about each of them. I also made them able to reproduce.
On the sixth day, I filled the earth with animals, reptiles, insects, and other land creatures. Some of them were so small that they seemed invisible. Others were huge. All of them reproduced more of their own kind. I called all of My creation good.
Yet, none of these creatures could have a friendship with Me. So I created man and woman in My image and likeness. This means they could think, feel, choose, and imagine. No other creature was like them. The first man and woman had My life in them. I created them to be My friends. I blessed them and said, "Have a lot of children." I let them take care of everything on the earth. Do you know what this means? It means that YOU, above everything else that I have created, are very special to Me. You are My most precious creation.
By the seventh day, I had completed all of My work of creation, so I rested. All that I had created was very good. I had made a beautiful, pure world full of life. As you can see, all of this could not have come into being without Me. Only I can create and preserve life. I want you to know Me as your Life Giver.
Let's thank God for all He has done and for His great love for us. Pray these words of praise to Him:
God, thank You that You created the sky and the earth; You spoke all creation into being, out of nothing. You created man and woman in Your image and likeness, to be Your friends. You created me to think, feel, choose, and imagine. Thank You that I am special to You'that I am Your most precious creation. I want to know You as my Life Giver.
Use Genesis 1:1 to 2:3 and the Story. They will help you complete your Response.
